Hey all! just wanted to give a quick update. On August 2 I swore into the Idaho ANG as a Phase Crew Chief for the 124th MX Squadron! I also got back into my flight training. Im currently sitting at 22.5 hrs, I will taking my first solo cross country on friday! Lord willing I will be able to get my PPL before shipping out to basic. And then work…

thats a great point. I still have a few years so maybe by then they will be at a few other places.

I agree with the A-10. My state base has em and I hope they stay. They are supposedly allotted for F-16s in 2027

That’s the number one fighter I want to fly! However due to already having a family and also the fact that we don’t really want to move to either Oregon or California. I have decided to stick to my states ANG. But man what a beautiful aircraft! Hope to see in person one day.

That’s a super interesting post. I didn’t realize how badly we need more fighters. Does that also coincide with needing more pilots?

what’s your opinion on that? Also do you think the AirForce is going to do something about making more pilots?

How often do you fly in ANG

This is just a random question I’ve been thinking of and can’t really find an answer too. How often do ANG pilots fly? I assume it’s less than active duty. I do know you need to maintain currency in your airframe, and I’m sure heavies/fighters are different. Is it a couple times a week or more like a month?

Questions to ask unit before enlisting?

Hey all! After countless time talking to a few friends of mine who are AF pilots or enlisted guardsmen, I have decided to pursue enlisting as a crew chief for the unit I want to fly for instead of AFROTC.

I am going to call the unit and ask for a time to go down there with my wife for a “tour” of the unit. But also to ask questions about life…

Hey there everyone. I am wondering if any of you know anyone who has gone from enlisted to fighterpilot. Preferably from the ANG route. This is something i am very interested in, however i am married so am trying get as much info as possible about life in the guard enlisted while pursing to become a military avaitor. Thanks!

Thank you so much for the reply! I am trying to figure out which path would be the best. The more I do research the more I feel like enlisting in the Guard unit I want to fly for, getting my foot in the door, and getting my degree to fly for that unit. Its a tough decision.

Thank you so much for the reply Snip! The more research I’ve done the more I see that AFROTC is probably not the best option. It seems like the best would be to enlist in the Guard and go for my degree from there.

I would absolutely love to be able to work on the aircraft I would end up flying. Currently my job is an airframe technician…
