Long story short. I was hired by a guard unit as a CSO in 2024 at age 32. I ran into trouble at MEPS. Couldn’t get passed MEPS in 2025. MEPS came back and said they are willing to grant a waiver in 2028 (I’ll be 36). Does anyone have the most up-to-date guidance on having a spouse with you during IPT? I’ve heard a wide range of answers over the last couple of months, and was wondering if this has been nailed down yet. Appreciate any current info.

At Sheppard pets are not allowed in the dorms they have you in on base. Typically guard and reserve can get off base housing or on base if you have a family. I recommend off base if possible if it is just you and your dogs.

My wife and I got a puppy day 1 of UPT there are times to run home quick to check/let them out if you’re close to base.…

It’s doable, but tough if they are younger dogs… I went to Columbus in 2016, so YMMV, but I was allowed off base housing within a month or two of arriving there and I think they made exceptions for people with pets to move off base immediately. While I’m not sure this particular change will affect rated positions specifically I think it’s part of a broader shift towards a more age permissive environment.

Generally heavy units are less age sensitive but we’ve had 32 year-old bogidopers get hired for fighter jobs.
