I am a current H60 pilot Active Army. I will complete my obligation at age 36. Since I am a rated aviator already do I stand a chance of going to the air force reserves and flying or will they not consider me based on being over 33?

Air Force instruction regulation waives the age requirement for flight training because you’re a rated aviator. Just another paper for your packet. The only tricky part is you’ll have to go back to UPT unless the new squadron flys the same army aircraft.

What squadron are you trying to rush?

I’m not currently rushing any squadrons because I still have 4 years left on my obligation as an Army 60 pilot. But I’ve reached out to a few via email just to connect and weigh my options. I’ll probably start rushing in two years from now. I’m most interested in fighter squadrons but I’m also open-minded. I would like to be in either Louisiana or Florida but I’m also open to anything in the south east. Any advice?

So in 2015 I was active duty and got out with being selected in a ANG and Navy Reserve hiring board. Maybe it was different times but if the DD368 is signed (good for 6 months) by branch then you’re set to get out of your ADSO with a UQR (unqualified resignation).

Wow! Thanks for that information. The only thing that could hang me up is having 4 years left on my army obligation from flight school. So you basically receive an offer from a unit first and then initiated the paperwork? The sooner I get out the better for me because I’m currently 32. I’m rated in a black hawk which will hopefully help me out but I know units would rather send me to flight school by 33. I like helicopters and have enjoyed my time but I love flying planes and have the long term aspirations of fly for the airlines.

Well it all depends on the board that picks you up. They usually will require a 368 informing the board if they accept you then your service with let you go. Double edge sword, you’re asking for a 368 to be signed to leave the army and you need to show the board that you are ready to join. If you don’t get picked up then branch knows you are trying to get out. The could affect your next set of orders…..
ADSOs can be broken but won’t be until they want to. For example, I got my 368 signed by branch, then applied to the board, then got selected, then submitted a UQR with the ETPs for the ADSOs. Once I got my separation orders I knew it was approved.

That makes sense. There seems to be a mass exodus in pilots in Army Aviation currently. Most are going to the airlines. So the Army will probably not release me before my ADSO is up. But it maybe worth a try.
