Hey guys! I figured a centralized place for people to share their interview experiences would be nice to have so it’s all easy to find.

If you’ve interviewed anywhere recently (and as you continue to interview), use this as a place to share anything you can about the experience, the questions you were asked, or anything else you think might be helpful for the group (including what aircraft it was for).

Hopefully this can serve as a resource for everyone preparing for an interview to help be more prepared and ready to knock it out of the park!

    Interviewed at F-16 / C-130 units.

    Interview Questions:

Why this unit? Why this airframe?

    Your biggest success in life?

You know we deploy right? How do you feel about this?

Tell us about a time when you failed but it worked in your favor?

Is your family on board for moving to (location)

    What are your 10/20-year goals?

Is there anything you know that would medically DQ you?

The guy in charge of all the Nav’s at a Herk unit asked me if I would consider a nav position

    Best flying story?

Things are popping off right now, we got additional security clearances, is there anything that would stop you from getting that on your record?

You’re going to be working with some salty Loadmasters, how do you deal with working with someone grouchy and significantly older than you?

How many flying hours do you have?

    What are your plans post-seasoning?

    Air Force Core Values?

*Showed video through targeting pod of their previous deployment and dropping bombs on adversaries* then asked How do you feel about this?

    Visual Recognition of: F-16, F-15C, F-4, F-35, B-2, B-52, P-51, SU-27

The scariest time you’ve had while flying?

What are your hobbies outside of flying?

Tell me about a time with your previous employer where you didn’t get along with or agree with a supervisor or co-worker?

Is cereal a soup? If so, why? If not, why?

Squadrons watching a movie in the bar, you’re in charge. What movie are we watching?

Tell me about a time you had to overcome adversity?

What is a quality that you think a fighter pilot needs to exemplify?

There are a lot of really sharp guys here today. Sell yourself / any final remarks?

Interviewed at an F-16 and A-10 unit:

Aside from several questions already mentioned, some that haven’t been mentioned:

    Tell us a joke

If you could pick one applicant to go to UPT with you, who would it be?

Is there someone from the rush event that you think we should have interviewed who isn’t here today?

Is there anyone from the rush event you’re glad to see didn’t get an interview invite?

If your commander illegally goes into Russian airspace, and you’re his wingman, what do you do?

What would you do if you’re told to shoot down an airliner of 200 innocent people?

Interviews at A-10 and F-16 units:

All of the above mentioned questions, in addition:

Three different variations on the “shooting down civilian airliner/civilian casualties” question back to back

At UPT, you will likely be instructed by pilots much less experienced than you – how do you feel about learning from younger, less experienced pilots? (Particular emphasis on this if you’re already an airline/high time/older pilot)

If you could have dinner with one fictional and one real person, who would it be? (I’ll be the first to admit that I stumbled hard on this question since I’d been expecting a similar “one person dead/one alive” question and my mind went blank on fictional characters)

    RC-26, MQ-9, MC-12W/OA1K, and KC-135:

    1. How’d your surgery go? Which I thought was re: LASIK, I said great, they then said, “No, to remove your lead foot.” Had a few speeding tickets back in the day ????

    2. We sometimes have to kill people. How do you feel about that?

    3. What is your understanding of our mission?

    4. What makes a great leader? What makes a bad one?

    5. Describe an emergency you’ve experienced while flying and how you handled it.

I also did a video interview for an F-16 fighter squadron—happy to share that video if anybody would like a general idea of how those flow!
