Hey y’all! I am a CFI/Contract pilot with about 1000 hours and I am going through the process of attempting to switch to military aviation via the national guard. I have some questions regarding medical waivers, specifically the route in which I should apply for one. An old physical injury I had when I was a kid seems to be very commonly waivered. I understand the primary way waivers happen is that after you are picked up by a unit, you go get your flight physical and if they find something wrong you can then apply for a waiver. Is there a way that I can apply for a waiver before I apply/am selected by a guard unit and go into the process already cleared? If so, any information regarding the first steps of that process would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y’all, and good luck on everyone’s military journey!

I would be straight forward with a unit about that when you apply and they should be able to tell you. Depending on the injury, if it’s old enough it may not even need a waiver.
