Here’s a slate of the latest FY23 (ended in October of last year) statistics on Pilot Slots per accession source for Active Duty Line Officer Accessions.

    USAFA- 44%

    ROTC-48%

    OTS- 8%

This changes from year to year, but you can see the lions share of slots go to the Academy and ROTC units.

That changes from year to year, so I am constantly tuning in to get the latest information.
In comparison to the other 37 career fields you can be in as an officer, the pilot slots are a very small number of the over all positions available to those with a commission.

It is interesting to note that the job that most of you seek is available, takes hard work, but you are seeking to be one of the elite few that get to do this! Let us help you get the best application that you can!

    Interesting.

I wonder what the percentage of overall UPT Slots are allocated for the Guard and Reserve?

This might be a good discussion for someone who is thinking about earning an Active Duty UPT Slot versus a Guard or Reserve UPT Slot.

    Thanks for the info!

@D.J. I am hoping to have those stats soon; I have to caveat that with it changes every year…so they are guidelines; This should not put you on the sidelines!

Don’t let that 8% number scare any of you interested in AD!

I assure you, the quest for a Guard slot has made all of you absolute STUDS. All of you have incredible stories, great test scores, and impressive flight hours. You’ll find the same things that made you an asset to a Guard unit also make you incredibly competitive to OTS boards, and the process isn’t much different!

It may not be the route that you originally imagined, but remember, flying anything looks pretty shit hot compared to flying a desk! Our Air Force needs you, and let our adversaries fear you!

Derek signing off, let me know if any of you have any questions.

Never let off the gas, don’t self-eliminate! Someone is going to flight training, why not make it us!
