Those middle of the night deployments. They have been rare of late, but they are a thing.

F-22s deploying due to a recent threat is like moving a “Risk” piece. Risk is a common board game that involves war strategy. These deployments occur sometimes when saber rattling is happening. Saber rattling means that a country or proxy is threatening another due to some activity that the other has taken.

Through my years in fighters there were three occasions when we were deployed on short notice to counter a threat in different parts of the world. Some we expected as it was “our turn” and others we didn’t. There were even more times when we were told were we going to deploy and we did not.

That was one of favorite things about being in a fighter squadron, every day was something new to study and prepare yourself for. The threats across the world are not the same. We always sought to be ready by being studied up and prepared to counter the different threats out there. You never know when you may get forward deployed, so you always have to be ready to go!
