      • What does an unsponsored slot entail? Is there any guarantee in airframe or location?

        • @undefined (not sure why “undefined” is the tag). This link will tell you all you need to know!

No airframe (aside from the fact it will be a heavy) or location guarantee, but I’ve received feedback that they can work with you to some extent. Unsponsored is kind of a moonshot. Check out the latest selection list. There’s only a handful and bear in mind there are multiple OA recruiters pulling applicants from their respecive geolocations; however, if your goal is to fly for the AFRC and your numbers are good, it’s likely worth your time! Given this, I would not stop rushing units just because you’re going the unsponsored route; making a genuine connection with an individual unit is still likely the surest bet.

          • @Allen I’m not sure if it changed when I was in the pipeline in 2017-18 but the unsponsored deal was kinda cool if you couldn’t get traction anywhere else. Basically the AFRC sends you to UPT and while you’re there you either continue to rush AFRC units or the AF will put you somewhere in the AFRC. I had buddies go to everything from RPAs to helicopters going this route, it was kinda cool. It’s like getting an AD slot, but with guard-rails to keep you in the reserves. It’s worth noting that both the RPA dude and the Helo dude wanted those and actually had to fight for them. Most peeps probably end up going C-17s, C-130s, and KC-135s if I had to guess.
