Hey all! I’ve been on BogiDope for a year and some change. I wanted to wait to introduce myself till I got the ball rolling. My name is Isaac I’m 24, and I’m a finally in tech school for crew chief. I am in the Air National Guard. With huge aspirations to flying for my unit or any unit really. And also to be a cooperate pilot.
I live in beautiful North Idaho in a town called Sandpoint. If you don’t know it’s a pilots paradise. I started my flight training last summer. I have 46 flight hrs. I unfortunately failed my oral exam for my checkride right before shipping out to BMT. I’m not letting that get me down. As soon as I get home I’m gonna hit it hard to get my ppl. Then get my instrument then commercial and so on. While getting a degree. I’m alittle behind then most as I don’t have any collage under my belt. But with the credits I get from my technical training it should help get me rolling. I’m married to my beautiful wife Hope and we have 2.5 year old son. We are excited for this new adventure and taking it one day at a time.
other than flying I love to snowboard, MTN Bike and do calisthenics. And hang out with my fam. I’m excited (kinda) to get my collage going. Im stoked to finish my tech school to actually get working on the A-10. And to finish my PPL. I would love to tell more people interested in why I chose this route, and to meet people who are also doing the enlisted to officer route. I’m excited to get this going. And hopefully one day to be a winged Airforce aviator!

That’s the number one fighter I want to fly! However due to already having a family and also the fact that we don’t really want to move to either Oregon or California. I have decided to stick to my states ANG. But man what a beautiful aircraft! Hope to see in person one day.

That’s a super interesting post. I didn’t realize how badly we need more fighters. Does that also coincide with needing more pilots?
what’s your opinion on that? Also do you think the AirForce is going to do something about making more pilots?

I just got into contact with the unit I want to work/fly for. Going through the process now. Just waiting on my MEPS stuff to get sent to the recruiter.

Thank you so much for the reply Snip! The more research I’ve done the more I see that AFROTC is probably not the best option. It seems like the best would be to enlist in the Guard and go for my degree from there.
I would absolutely love to be able to work on the aircraft I would end up flying. Currently my job is an airframe technician building an aircraft called the Kodiak. Would that help in the hiring process for a guard unit?
What other advice would you give to somewhere wanting to enlist in the guard?

thats a great point. I still have a few years so maybe by then they will be at a few other places.
I agree with the A-10. My state base has em and I hope they stay. They are supposedly allotted for F-16s in 2027
