I am hoping to take this track, I know I will miss out on the fun of flying the T-6. However, every year T-1 instructors from Vance and Columbus visit my current base. I was able to spend a bunch of time talking with them and they encouraged me that the the T-1 only track for a heavy pilot is the way to go. They are confident in the program, believe it creates a better pilot, and the attrition rate is lower than the T-6 program. They said come to UPT ask for the program, be a good person and you will complete pilot training. I thought the same thing that the jump from a Cessna 172 and me personally a 150 to a Beach Jet would be insane. They assured me it isn’t all that bad and before you know it you would be comfortable. Good Luck!

MilRecruiter has a list of all the selects for AFRC for the last few years. They have quarterly boards, it seems like every quarter has about two selects. One of them I cant remember which had a bunch of unsponsored selects. Honestly, I think this is a good way to get your foot in the door. Your essentially a free agent that a unit is not funding. Worst case scenario your assigned to an undermanned location and your still a reserve pilot.

Seems like a tough crowd to join! I enjoy when they stop by the Alpena CRTC personally.

I managed to increase my score from 83 to 90 by practicing. The first time around, I did very poorly on the UAV section. This time I only missed 3, but still didn’t get to a 99. I figure I’ll take my 90 and not risk it going down.

See ive heard that your still sort of a free agent and if you can get a fighter unit to sponsor you after selection and through UPT you can go there. It was explained to me as if you dont find a sponsor unit, you have to take the heavy or tanker unit you get. Someone whose been through this please chime in.

I would keep shooting for any possible options to get in. I was applying Guard, Reserve, and Active duty. I think East Coast would be tough if you are not sponsored if you get in. However, I have 0 knowledge to stand on when I say this. I would just pick a few key locations and then keep visiting. Then when your selected by them – great. Or if you are selected Command Sponsored, you have the peace of mind that you are in and can keep rushing and getting to know locations with a bit less stress. Good Luck!
