        BD Family,

I wanted to post something a little different today that shows the not so glamorous side of the job sometimes. My old Commander used to call the “Jettison External Stores” button the Commander’s doorbell, as this assuredly would get you a fact to face meeting with him to justify why you pushed it.

Most likely, the pilot encountered some sort of an engine problem or loss of thrust. In a situation like this, it can become necessary to lose anything on the jet that is inducing drag and could potentially hurt your chances of a safe landing with degraded power.

Hopefully, this was the case, and I’m glad nobody was hurt!

        Cheers!

Eglin said no one was injured or killed when the fuel tank fell, but residents reported jet fuel on their properties.
