USAF OTS LO Board results are delayed…again?
Ever questioned why the board results take SOOOO long to come out?
In short the answer boils down to the approval process and the eligibility of each applicant.
The time that it takes to verify each applicant is increased for each snag they may or may not hit in the eligibility process. Late or incomplete paperwork should be cutoff by the board date…but sometimes things slip through the cracks. Some are vetted by medical personnel, some are vetted by staff at AFPC (Air Force Personnel Center- 6 HUGE buildings full of people); some are vetted by staff inside Air Force Recruiting Service (that’s your recruiter’s organization). The Pentagon can also get involved when it comes to end strength numbers and what the Congress can and will afford. In the end, Board results have to be signed by someone that holds the responsibility for the results, typically an O-6 (Colonel) or higher. They may be deployed, or on leave. That can also delay the results. These documents go through lots of “hands” before approval, so its not typically one person that slows the whole process down. The only thing you can do is take care of yourself, to make sure you are not ineligible for any factor listed on your application. You can only do your best…and if you think you need a waiver for anything, then ASK! Double, triple check that your recruiter has all the necessary documentation prior to submitting your package for approval. For each subsequent package don’t let anything go missing!
