The Joint Direct Attack Munition has been around for about 20 years now. it uses Global Positioning System information to provide guidance to a tailkit on multiple different sizes of weapons. That tailkit talks to the airplane and provides a Launch Acceptable Region to the aircrew. The distance that these weapons can be launched varies due to altitude and airspeed of the aircraft. The accuracy rate is very high depending on the signal strength of the GPS constellation in that area. This specific weapon also has a seeker on the nose of the bomb, which provides clarity on targeting this specific ship and where to hit the ship for maximum weapons effects.
There’s more to this story, but it is an upgrade to our weapons arsenal for the future!
