New fighter weapons – SiAW!

Getting closer on fielding the new Stand in Attack Weapon. What is it? It appears to be a thirteen foot missile so who cares, shoot that thing and try not to giggle!

So what is this about? Well for those of you interested in fighters we’re really in a paradigm shift of weapons. It used to be that only bombers carried big weapons that had neat wiz-bang end game guidance. Fighters dropped bombs, and bombers fired land attack missiles (intuitive. right?).

But things are starting to change. Land/Sea attack missiles are now an important arrow in the quiver. Frankly, not the most fun one (that’s rockets), but a part of the game. Where my career started with dumb bombs and then JDAMs arrived; your careers are likely to be JDAM and then SiAW, JASSM, LRASM, Stormbreaker.
