Alright fellow flight geniuses. Below is a question from an AFOQT practice test for instrument comprehension. According to the answer key, I got this question wrong; however, I still believe I got it right. The key says answer (C) is correct (LEVEL ATTITUDE, RIGHT BANK, SOUTH). I answered (A) because that figure also appears to be level, right bank, south. I chose A over C because the wings matched the bank angle in the figure.
What is your interpretation of the positions of each aircraft and do you have any tips on how I can distinguish what is truly the correct answer for the future?
Thanks!

Hey, good question. This is a tricky one, especially when under the gun and moving through these questions quickly. “C” is the correct answer since the bubble canopy on the F-16 is slightly more visible. That to me is the telling indication that it’s the only F-16 pointing south. For that same reason and the slight difference in image, figure A appears to be facing North. I took my AFOQT back in December last year and none of the figures were this difficult to decipher. Hope that’s helpful!

Of course! If you’re doing well on the practice tests with a 2D F-16, I have zero doubt you’ll crush that section on the actual AFOQT. My experience taking the exam, the images were much more defined than anything I saw on a practice test. I worked with Gunboss and he was very helpful and insightful, I couldn’t recommend him enough.

@Nico Thanks Nico! Also, as I debrief more and more students after their tests, I find that they are seeing 1-2 questions where the attitude indicator gives the correct answer, but the compass is slightly off. You will definitely see an A-10 with ordnance under the wing on the actual test, as attached.

This is very much a “got ya” question. Good to hear there is more fidelity on the images on the actual test. Keep grinding @Bornholdt and good luck!
