Hey guys, curious on some feedback. After I take my AFOQT, should I start applying to units with my scores and low flight hours even though I plan on flying after application deadlines or should I only apply with a higher amount of flight hours and do it all in 1 go. I have my thoughts but am curious for advice!

      Thank you in advance !

      • It really depends on the overall package that you are bringing forth.  If you are a well rounded candidate with plenty of high caliber leadership experience and a unique background that squadrons will find fascinating, go for it!  If you’re resume needs the flight time to help it stand out then maybe delaying makes better sense.  Spend the time while also building flight to improve other aspects of your overall application as well.  I have worked with clients who have not completed their PPL and still got hired.  It really depends on the rest of your application and how well you handle the actual interview.

        Good luck!

          • Kidney,

Piggybacking off Snip, it’s never too early to start seeing what units you can visit or rush. Start by circling a few Squadrons that may be of particular interest to you and/or have upcoming boards, and reach out to see if they’ll accept visitors. Building a rapport, even if you aren’t necessarily ready to apply at the moment, can pay dividends in the long run. Quite often, applicants rush squadrons multiple times, sometimes over multiple years, before ever applying or interviewing.

            Hope that helps! Cheers.

            • Yes, that helps a lot, so I assume just message/connect with people in the squadrons I’m interested in and literally just greet them and ask if I can come visit this squadron and see if they will except visitors. I see the potential and I’d say it’s worth a shot after hearing your reply, thank you so much for the heads up. I really appreciate the feedback! @CHAOS
