NATO Picks E-7 as Its New AWACS; Six Aircraft to Start
NATO will buy six Boeing E-7 Wedgetail aircraft to succeed its Boeing E-3 Sentry AWACS. The first airplane is due to be operational in 2031.

It’s an interesting design to see. I’ll miss the E-3, but if it works it works. I think the AWACS really is understated in how important it is in airborne warfare, especially air-to-air. One of those can give the decisive edge to any fighter force from the start, beyond the usual technology-training-tactics of the fighters alone.
