The Future
What does it hold? I don’t know, and neither does this USAF. But here’s what it thinks (attached).
Highlights:
-Overhauling a fleet while complying with the 23 FRA and rising personnel costs is tough.
-4 fighters go forward…and CCA….and multiple versions on the F-15….and only after NGAD and CCA come along.
-old fighters are expensive ‘cause they’re old, new fighters are expensive ‘cause they’re new.
My 2 cents. In the next 5 years, the F-35 and F-15X will displace A-10, and the oldest F-15s and F-16s. And much like the Cold War, we’ll train for this high-end fight but mostly be fighting small wars. From 5-10 years, F-35, maybe NGAD and CCA. After that, AI? Lethal Autonomous Aircraft? Or maybe the PRC demographic implosion happens and we’re in a new peace dividend.
What does that mean for you?
1) Stay the course, you may see some incredible changes but those are a few years out.
2) Be. Good. At. Flying. Seriously, the things that will get you timeless: spatial D, physiological events, CFIT, mid-air collision, and landing. Focus on the amazing training you’re going to get! Be the absolute best you can.
Cheers!
