  • Can Guard Units Help Fight For You To Get a Medical Waiver? MHS Genesis Question

I don’t remember where, it might have been in one of the Bogidope videos or one of the live meetings on here, that someone mentioned if you are set on Guard/Reserve flying and might have a medical condition or something in your history that needs a waiver, that don’t go to MEPS with an active duty recruiter and get DQ’d, that a guard unit can fight for your the get a waiver.

I do have something in medical history that according to the Air Force Waiver Guide, is a Maybe. I did do a medical consultation through Bogidope and we determined it’s a strong maybe.

I did have one interview with a guard unit so far (still waiting on a decision) and my history did come up during the interview. I told them I got a consultation through Bogidope and I had a copy of the Air Force Waiver Guide with me.

I have another interview in 2 weeks with a different unit. I’m sure it will come up again.

I know MHS Genesis has changed things a lot. I’m not on any meds, I’m healthy but I do have recent medical history that will be flagged at MEPS.

From what I have seen in my enlisted Guard time as aircrew, yes they can fight for you. Although it is not guaranteed and it really depends on the unit, they will stick their neck out for you if they see you as an overall great candidate. It’s excellent that you have done your due diligence in the research and consultations with your case. It makes the process at least a bit easier on them, which benefits you.

Wishing you good luck on the interviews and hope you get the offer from one of the units!

Thank you. I’m hoping that is the case. I have read that sometimes a waiver can take a year. I hoping they are will to wait. What makes me nervous is that most units hire alternates and they will just go with them instead.
