    Greetings !

First off, thank you all for contributing to this forum. Some really great information on here

I wanted to share with you my specific situation, in hopes someone might be able to provide some clarity :

One of the pre-conditions to becoming a Military Pilot in most branches would be “a 4 year degree from an accredited university”. I happen to have a Master’s in Mechanical engineering…from a French institution (albeit, a well renowned one, just not in the USA 😅).

–> I’m currently in the process of getting degree evalued by WES (World Education Services) to get “degree equivalence certification”, would this suffice for the purposes of applying to AF Guard, Reserve, Navy AD & Reserve, and Army aviation ?

If absolutely necessary, I would not be opposed to getting an american degree…just time seems not to be in my favor and cost is a factor as well.

Some more info about my profile :

    – Just turned 27, getting towards the higher criteria of age but I’m still hopefull to pursue a military pilot career. Almost done getting my PPL. Currently working as a civ as an independant consultant in IT Project Management.

    best regards to all,

Thanks for the kind words, Louis! I am assuming you have an Undergraduate Degree as well. Is that one from a University in the USA?

With my experience, the biggest concern Units have is “will this person be able to obtain a Security Clearance”? You will have to disclose

I would continue to pursue your degree equivalency validation, but I wouldn’t let that hold you up trying to apply for UPT Positions.

Unfortunately, no — I left the USA right after high school and only hold a Master’s degree.

In the French academic system for engineering, the structure follows a 2+3 model: the first two years are purely preparatory for competitive entrance into a three-year graduate-level engineering school. As a result, students graduate directly with a Master’s degree, without earning a separate undergraduate degree along the way.

Regarding security clearance: I very briefly served in the French military as a reservist during a summer while I was a student. It was a short-term, non-committal experience in an enlisted, non-sensitive position — very far from anything involving classified or security-sensitive information.

As a dual national, could this short, non-operational reservist experience be an issue for obtaining U.S. security clearance?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.
