Hello all! My name is Thomas, I’m a recent college graduate from Arizona who’s had my PPL since 2020 and have recently gotten into aerobatic flying. From ages 3-5 I was treated for childhood leukemia (ALL). Ever since then, I have been very healthy and led a normal life with zero lasting medical effects from the cancer treatment. From what I can find online, it seems that I should be able to get a medical waiver for this upon entering the ANG pipeline – does anyone on here know if that’s the case? I recognize this is a unique issue but whatever info the forum has helps! Cheers to all and thanks in advance!

    Thomas,

While I’m far from an expert on the medical side of the house… Generally, there’s a waiver for everything. I would definitely not let this deter you from your goals. In fact, I would consider this as a strength of your ability to persevere! I’d recommend looking to the Medical pros who contribute here at BogiDope for more specific guidance. The bottom line is that I’d say press forward, and I’d be shocked that if a unit wants to hire you, they can’t obtain a waiver for you to start this adventure.

Good luck, and thanks for sharing your story!
