Driving Record
Hey Guys, just curious what anyone knows on driving record impairing chances. I have roughly 6-8 speeding tickets and 1 license suspension. Most of this happened before 2020. Waiting for 3-4 of the tickets to fall off my record with time. But what about a license suspension? Even if it was 3 years ago I’m just worried for applying for units in 2 years.

driving while speeding is great! very prominent attribute if you wanna be a pilot. the hiring board loves to see if the applicant has a bunch of tickets, it shows them that you are able to sustain high speeds with quick reaction times. gettin deployed will be a no brainer for you now. if possible get some more fresh ones; they’ll love it! try to shoot for 20 over. all jokes aside, how fast over were you going?
I can’t speak on behalf if you having all those infractions will be a detriment to you getting a slot or not (hopefully someone that’s been on the hiring board can chime in), but if all of those are still on your record by the time (if) you get an interview, expect them to ask about it.
since it been over 3 years since you’ve had your last ticket, I think if you show that you’ve learned from past mistakes and you don’t get anymore until that interview, you might get some leeway.

I certainly can’t speak with any real authority/experience on this matter but driving records aren’t as bad as, well actual felonies like burglary or something. All the same having that number of infractions may raise an eyebrow. Pilots do often have that ‘Maverick’ air about them but flying is done within reason; being reckless in the air can lead to accidents and deaths and I would think someone on the hiring board could construe that number of infractions to a bad habit of recklessness.
It is good that your record’s been clean for a while and I’m very much the kind of person that doesn’t like to hold mistakes, especially old ones, over people’s heads. It’s important to show you’ve changed and kicked that habit. Maybe take a safe driver’s course of your own volition? I know they’re tedious but it shows you’re aware of and fixing a problem.
Again this is all just spitballing, I’ve got no real experience with speeding tickets or anything like that nor with hiring boards. This is all just my personal speculation; I’m not sure if it helps or not but I hope it does. The others like yahoo may give better advice. Best of luck in your eventual applications!

Not a show stopper but expect to talk about it in the interview. Your squadron won’t want a teammate that is a liability to their mission or reputation.
But fear not. Someone on that board will have a similar experience and it’s easy to pivot your heavy foot into a strength. Airspeed is life right?
