I am looking into enlisting as a 17 year old to the Jacksonville ANG (125th fighter wing) as a crew chief. I think this will increase my chances at a upt slot upon getting my bachelors. If I do that and I’m committed for six years, will I only be able to apply for guard units in that time or can I apply for reserve units as well. Just for context I’m hoping to get a fighter slot one day.

Goonie – you aren’t tied to the guard. You’re a free agent and can apply to both / even active duty. Good luck!

        Goonie,

Doubling down on cgiff’s reply. You are absolutely not tied to the Guard. In fact, most units would encourage you to go to UPT, no matter the avenue you choose. I personally went from enlisted AF Reserve to an ANG Pilot slot. It happens all the time.

Good luck, and be sure to look through all of the website’s material if you have any questions.

        Cheers!
