Letters of Recommendation
Posted by Nell on February 12, 2025 at 11:57 amHi Everyone!
I am in the process of applying to several Guard/Reserve Squadrons and Active Duty through a recruiter. I found guidance as to the content for the letters of recommendation (LOC), however, my commander is wondering to whom he should address his LOC to. If I am planning on using it for different squadrons and my AD application package, to whom should it be address? I know it seems like such a silly question but I want to set myself for success in every which way. Thanks in advance!

Hey Nell! When I wrote my letters I had several that were addressed differently depending on the board I was applying for. Guard and reserve were addressed to NGB/AFRC but also specifically to the unit I was rushing and/or applying towards. My Group CC addressed it to “Air Force Officer Selection Board”. For AD, I’d probably address “UFT Board #xxxx Board” or something similar to that. I didn’t apply AD so I can’t really talk to it, but as a successful Reserve UPT Select that’s what I did when I started applying and rushing squadrons. Here’s a few options, I hope it helps! Good luck!

@Nell , I always recommend you try and get your letters sent to you in an editable format for this reason specifically. It’s hard enough to get someone to write you a solid LOR. You don’t want to have to keep bugging them to change something for every board.

That’s exactly what I was thinking due to all the different applications I plan on submitting. Thanks so much!!

Like everyone else has said here, do most of the “admin” leg work for the person writing the recommendation. Having the information sent to you in an editable format is very important.
At the end of the day, making things as easy as possible for those supporting you so that you can use the information as needed or for multiple applications.
