  • UPT Age Cutoff?

Posted by Bryan904 on September 1, 2023 at 4:23 pm

If I go Frontier’s F9 program, I would be 28 when I would show up for FO training and 29 when I am officially a FO. Given that I couldn’t go off to UPT until I fulfilled that FO training requirement for them (about 6 months), I am curious about the UPT requirements.

Since you must be below 33 years old by UPT, how far out is it pushed back? Does it take 2 years from being hired to go off to UPT these days? If I got hired by ANG at 32 (last minute ordeal) would I require a waiver? I have no intentions of waiting that long, but just curious for planning purposes for the timeline and your experience. Thanks again!

33 is the regulation of requiring a waiver, but each unit varies. Anecdotally, the unit can determine at what age the waiver needs to be applied. Some units require “must interview before 33rd birthday” or some will require you to be at UPT before your 33rd.

Ive heard of a unit inviting applicants over the age limit that were willing to pushback paperwork up to 35.

I would look into the units your hoping to applying for and see what there criteria is.

Im sure you know this, but I wouldn’t plan or hope for an opportunity like this; the younger the better.

    Hope this helps.

Something worth looking into and asking your contacts at Frontier about is USERRA. It’s essentially a law stating that if you’re called to military service that prevents you from continuing in your civilian job for some time, your employer is required to hold your job for when you come back.
