Introduction
Hey all,
I’ve been on here for a while and haven’t introduced myself to the community as a whole yet, so I thought I’d do so briefly.
I really can’t say I’m a native Texan since I grew up all around world as a military brat, but I have lived here in Fort Worth, Texas for over a decade. I studied mathematics and played tennis at Dallas Baptist University, graduating in 2023. As previously mentioned, growing up in the USAF (dad flew heavies), I’ve always wanted to go the military aviation route, specifically ANG/Reserves, so during college I got my PPL, took all my tests (99’s Pilot/CSO/ABM, 98 PCSM), and started to apply to fighter units. After graduating, I landed a job working at Lockheed Martin as an F-35 software engineer in Sensor Fusion, which is a job I certainly can’t complain about. Needless to say, though, I’m still pretty keen on changing out my desk chair for an ejection seat!
Over the past couple of years on the “circuit”, I’ve had the opportunity to interview at five units across various locations and have learned a ton from every single one. Strategy wise, I’m still mainly targeting fighter units but recently have opened up the aperture to include a few C-130 units as well. Also, still working on plugging through GA ratings…got my instrument in 2024, and have my commercial ride scheduled for next month.
I’m also married (2022), with two kids, so this is would definitely be an adventure, but I think we’re up for it!
If anyone new to this exciting yet painful process has questions, or others want to connect, feel free to hit me up–I’m always up to meet other folks in this world. Also, if anyone has advice for how to clear the interview hump, or honestly any advice whatsoever, I’m all ears!
Cheers!

Nico, 5ME and 5 others2 CommentsAaron, thanks for introducing yourself to the group! Sounds like you’ve had a phenomenal college and young working career so far, excited to see where this new path takes you! I wish there was a magic button I could push to help with the interview hurdle…sometimes it just takes the right combination of charisma, confidence with humility, and finding a few connections within the unit for everything to click.
If you haven’t been able to participate yet, we offer monthly interview prep sessions (next one is Feb 24th with @Husky ). I highly recommend participating and getting some direct feedback from one of our coaches. From there, you can build on your real-world experience and always have the option of taking it a step further with the 1-on-1 consultations.
Don’t get discouraged! You are so incredibly close and have obviously found your way to several interviews, congratulations! The right timing and a few tweaks will hopefully land you the dream job.
@aaron-capone , Congrats on your progress so far! Scores like that combined with your very relevant work experience is incredibly valuable, and it’s no wonder why you’ve landed some extremely competitive interviews already. I echo everything Smax said above. Keep rushing those units that have already interviewed you to show continued interest. I’m sure many of the people you interviewed with that were selected had interviewed at the same unit in the past and were still showing up again to prove they really wanted the job. Persistence is key, so keep pressing.
I would also recommend some formal interview prep in the future. I believe it makes a huge difference and can help you land the dream job. DM me with any other questions you may have, and keep working hard!
