A significant amount of CSO’s get selected every year on the AD board. As far as the 2.5 years from you graduating UCT, it’s all luck and timing based on the airframe you drop, manning, and whether your functional is willingly to release. As a CSO myself, applying for AD // Guard // Reserve for pilot is the boat I’m currently in, and not going to lie it’s rigorous and can be challenging when you’re competing with other rated officers applying to UPT that are instructors/evaluators with tons of hours, and at the 2.5 year mark is going to be tough for the CSO platforms. Not impossible but you’ll really have to stand out, get your PPL, fill leadership billets, and get a super strong letter of recc. Hopefully these guard/reserve squadrons take CSO experience further into consideration against someone off the street. If you need more info for CSO’s, feel free to reach out
