Does it ever get old? Does it ever get easy?

No.

Flew the mighty Viper yesterday on a local single ship pilot proficiency and currencies flight – landings, off station approaches, IFR/VFR procedures. Sorties where it’s just you and the chariot is rare – most of our training focuses on employing the weapons system as a team – and so yesterday I got afforded that opportunity to look at the window and go “this is awesome.” Flying this jet over my hometown, trying to sound cool on the radio, staying sharp in case the balloon goes up.

But…you only get a moment. Look out the window too long and very quickly you’re high and fast on the approach, and humbled as you ask center for the spelling of that fix…again.
