So you’re not from around here….
Up front a local tie-in is always a plus. But…you can’t be from everywhere so lets talk about that.
Why does a board care? Welp what they really want to know is ‘do you have a plan to thrive here?’
Some red flags:
-You’re interviewing at Duluth but hail from Florida – how is that first winter going to go?
-You’re an phili based Ameican Airline pilot interviewing at soiux falls. How is that going to work? Are you going to commute? Theres no direct flights
– you’re spouse is a marine biologist and you’re interviewing at Hill. Won’t they be frustrated?
The key here is understand and even anticipate those concerns. When you get the “where are you from?” “I’m from TX orginially, but actually we really excited to move to DC, my wife is a state department person and there are really great opportunities for her here.”
