My proudest accomplishment of my journey so far was getting the darn AFOQT sponsorship/voucher. The Guard CAN AND WILL give them, but a lot of the time they will tell you they can’t. Sometimes it is because they truly believe they can’t and other times its because they aren’t sure that you’re serious and it has some associated costs. When I was trying, the Guard originally told me they could only do enlisted members of their unit and to talk to an AD or AFROTC recruiter. Of course, those recruiters said they could only do AD and AFROTC. I kept pushing and pushing and finally the Guard recruiter was able to make a connection for me to someone in the right place to make it happen. It was a battle that spanned a month or so and involved some driving to bases and nagging.
For anyone interested, rejection emails sent this past weekend.

Great question. It looked like a mass email from their gmail, so maybe check your junk to be sure. If you didn’t get one, perhaps you made it to an additional round of consideration. My feedback was that age (30) was a factor, so if you’re mid 20s with a good packet, you certainly could still be in the running.
