• Collecting Your Interview Ammo

BD Fam, do you find yourself asking “Well, what now? What do I do to make myself 1% more hireable every day? What can I work on while waiting for a board/deadline/job opening?”

I recently found myself asking the same questions. I felt that the paperwork and administrative aspects of my package were solid, but that my interview strategy was disjointed. While waiting for an interview, I realized I needed to organize my “interview ammo,” i.e., my interview stories that showcase my hiring value. Once I started organizing my thoughts in this way, I could easily link my experiences to valuable hire traits.

For every story you have, frame the experience in terms of:

Situation: Context that makes the story make sense
Task: What I needed to accomplish
      Action: What actually happened
Result: The logical conclusion of the story
Takeaway: What I learned/improved from the situation that applies to the job I want

These items become part of my “Flying Journal” that I keep in tandem with my logbook. While this construct is in no way my original idea, the format greatly helped me frame the more subjective side of my flying logbook.

Hit me up if you want to talk more in-depth about your “Interview Ammo”!
