I talked to a buddy of mine who was an ROTC detachment commander he told me about a program called the Air Force ROTC Reserve Selection Board (RSSB). Usually you are eligible to apply during your junior year for the RSSB. They select 25 ROTC candidates throughout the country for this program. Once you are picked for the RSSB you need to get selected for a Guard or Reserve flying position by the time you graduate or you will be placed in a Reserve flying position. You will be commissioned through ROTC and then transferred to the Guard or Reserve.

    Selection Factors:

    AFOQT/PCSM- 40%

    Commanders ranking- 25%

    Field Training ranking- 15%

    Physical Fitness Assesment- 10%

    GPA- 10%

  • My buddy did say that not many cadets know about this program and their ROTC detachment leadership may not mention it because they are in the business of producing officers for the active duty, not the guard and reserve. So be sure to ask your leadership about the process.

I will also attach a link with more information on the RSSB process on milrecruiter.com. I hope this helped.
