@Keaton well done and another total bro post from you! Awesome to see the community paying it forward. Hopefully this will help out some of those in the community trying to break through the test guantlet. Another vote for Gunboss as an unmatched resource for those looking to ace the exams!
Cheers.

@OutcastOneThree , I know they have sent out at least some interview notifications and a schedule of events. It may have been recently, so may be more to follow.
Hope that helps!

One thing I would highly recommend if you have any medical concerns is to link up with one of our Medical SMEs (GAS / Tigger). They should be able to provide you with firsthand experience and expertise regarding waivers.
Cheers!

@leinesj Great advice from the previous two posts. BL, you totally have a shot, and prior service is always a plus. I recommend finding a few units that interest you and reaching out to try to rush. Getting your foot in the door and showing you have the personality they’re looking for gives you a huge leg up.
Cheers!

Troy,
ANG units are investing in their UPT selections way more than a Corporate America company hiring an employee. You’ll deploy, party, fly, and more with your squadron brothers. That said, getting to know you more than just your professional accomplishments is massively important. College extracurriculars, Athletic Careers, hobbies, etc., are all a peek behind the curtain as to what makes you you and how you might fit into the culture. The trick is fitting all of that info into a single page document that isn’t cumbersome to read.
Obviously, fit the most important elements onto your resume, but if you have room for some of that misc. info it’s totally worth it.

I know there’s been a couple of rush events and interview weekends recently, so I wanted to reinvigorate this thread.
Does anybody have any insights to share about their experiences over the last couple of months?
Always good to hear how these visits go and if there were any lessons learned.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the additions! Test scores are so important in the game these days. I encourage everyone to drop items into this thread if they find a tool that really gave them an edge.

Awesome, contributions to this thread! Bottom line, don’t give up. Most, if not all, units will look at you holistically, and a lone blemish in the past (especially far removed/and with a track record of success since) should not stop you from being considered. Own your mistakes, take accountability, show that you’ve learned from them, and exude passion!

@Kristin sounds like some awesome advice from the community! I can’t imagine it’s something that isn’t an easy fix once you reach out and make some admin corrections.
Good luck!

@lauren-sudmeier You nailed most of it! Some units are particular and require a few different things, but it’s on a case-by-case basis.
If you haven’t already, I highly recommend the Application Prep e-course, which can give you step-by-step tips on how to make your Application stand out.
Cheers!

@lauren-sudmeier Great question and awesome replies so far! It’s certainly NEVER too early to start the rushing process. I always tell people, as soon as you can get a foot in the door, the better! As a prior E myself, I took every opportunity I could to link up with the pilots in my squadron, and once they got to know me, they invited me to more and more squadron events. If you’re interested in other units outside Colorado, I’d still start reaching out and looking for rush opportunities ASAP, concurrently.
As far as when you can start applying… Most units will consider your application once you hit your Senior year of college. I’d aim to have your application squared away going into the last year and start throwing it at the boards ASAP.
Hope this helps!

Obviously, the UPT landscape is highly fluid at this point. The best thing for all of you future STUDs is to remain flexible and ready to crush whatever syllabus they put in front of you.
Welcome to the Air Force! lol
Just keep your cranium down, grind it out, and look forward to the smell of JP-8 in the morning in a short couple of years!

@Smack-Meier looking forward to what I’m sure will be a righteous webinar!
I’ll hit leadoff here to hopefully get more questions rolling… How long is the F-35 B-Course and is it exclusively at Luke AFB in Arizona? Or are there other possible locations?

Thanks for posting, DJ! Any military aviator with airline aspirations should tune into this thread, as it will make life easier when it comes time to apply to the civilian sector (if that’s the path you choose).

@rowan-prown Your initial contact doesn’t even necessarily need to include your resume/cover letter. I would just stress your passion in obtaining a UPT slot, your admiration for the unit you’re reaching out to, a brief background on you, and your willingness to visit at any opportunity afforded your way.
Be respectful of their time, bring the passion, and make it hard to say no to you.
Good luck!

@Nell , I always recommend you try and get your letters sent to you in an editable format for this reason specifically. It’s hard enough to get someone to write you a solid LOR. You don’t want to have to keep bugging them to change something for every board.

@hammer8 Another vote for Barron’s. They have been around forever and have long been the standard for AFOQT prep books.
Also, another vote for linking up with Gunboss. There’s no substitute for one-on-one tutoring for test prep.
Good luck!

Nice dude! That’s huge to get those 99s. I’m sure it feels like a huge weight lifted finishing off those tests. Hopefully, you start racking up some interviews sooner rather than later. Keep us updated!

Awesome article! A guaranteed aviation slot sounds quite appealing.

@john-sandusky I believe most (if not all) heavy track students will head straight to their Aircraft B-Course after the T-6.
It’ll be quite the transition, but I’ve heard from a recent KC-135 Stud that went through Altus that the transition hasn’t been too bad so far. Best of luck!

I second this!

Thanks for the reply Nico, and well said! Rushing can definitely be cumbersome, and your first time at the squadron can certainly be intimidating and awkward. The biggest thing is don’t try to hard and don’t try to little. Ultimately, being yourself, having a few meaningful conversations, and being likable are the keys to success.
