The most important things are going to be in person exposure and making sure you aren’t picky with where you are applying. Think of your top units and get out and visit them, also visit any unit you are planning to apply to. It’s expensive, but when age is not in your side you have to unfortunately lean on that. On paper, there are going to be a lot of others with scores like that, but if a unit doesn’t have to deal with waivers and can get extra years out of someone younger it’s a bit of a no brainer for them. You need to show them you are the kind of dude on a personal level that they want around. It’s an uphill battle for sure, but it can happen! I imagine heavy units that are local to you or in less desirable places to live will give you your best odds. Good luck with your journey!

I am just going to echo the whole “be weary of recruiters” theme here. When I started this whole process I was almost talked into enlisting because a recruiter told me that would be the easiest way to get a pilot slot and I wouldn’t even go to basic before I was picked up for UPT. Needless to say I caught him with his pants around his ankles in multiple lies…

I would be straight forward with a unit about that when you apply and they should be able to tell you. Depending on the injury, if it’s old enough it may not even need a waiver.

I had Smax review mine and he did a really good job. I also did a couple interview prep sessions with Snip that weren’t exactly application reviews, but based on the way he critiqued my interview answers I would bet he is another awesome coach for packet review. I honestly can’t imagine you go wrong with any coach though.

It seems to be the most common to refer to the squadron as opposed to the wing. Granted I can’t imagine referring to the wing will upset anyone, but squadrons tend to be a bit more specific versus a wing which is a bit more broad.

I stay active in the weight room, but wasn’t super on top of the running so my way of getting into that was to sign up for a half marathon. I knew if I was signed up, I would be forced to train and start running… Within a couple weeks running 3 miles from the worst thing in the world to just kind of a warm up. Having that go to work for is definitely helpful to me as opposed to just an opening at a goal of “getting better.”

Yeah I would check again. It looks like it’s still up.
