New platforms reaching initial operational capability (IOC) is always encouraging, especially to aspiring military aviators. AFSOC just brought the OA-1K up to speed and finally gave it a name: Skyraider II. Dieter Dengler would be proud.
This is noteworthy for a few reasons. For BD members, this opens up a new platform, community, and cockpits for future USAF Air Commando pilots. Second, it demonstrates a successful transition of a civilian-built aircraft to military specifications with (largely) off-the-shelf and modular parts. Looking forward to seeing how Skyraider II is integrated into the close air support, non-traditional ISR, and rescue mission sets.

Air Force Names OA-1K Skyraider II as New Aircraft Prepares to Come Online

The Air Force named its upcoming OA-1K light attack and observation aircraft the Skyraider II after an iconic close air support platform.
