Here’s a quick highlight reel of the 18th Fighter Interceptor Squadron way up at Eielson AFB in Fairbanks, AK. A lot of people ask “What F-16 locations can I expect to have available on active duty?” The list is short and getting shorter; Eielson being 1 of 3 in a US state. The 18th stays busy doing a little bit of red air, and a lot of alert. They (along with F-22/F-35s) cover the northern approach to the homeland for NORAD with the highest number of Russian intercepts of any USAF unit. Of note, their AOR is within range of Flanker escort making each intercept a possible encounter with 4++ gen fighters.
