Hello everyone. I’m new here. Wanted to jump on here for some advice on applying to UPT for the Airforce Reserves.
I am currently 29 years old. I served 6 years in the Army Reserves as a HUMVEE mechanic back in the day (18-24 years old). I did this while completing a bachelors in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (GPA 3.3). I have worked as an engineer for Northrop Grumman on the F-35 program, the 737 MAX program for The Boeing Company, and I am currently a systems engineer for the C-17 Globemaster III based out of Joint Base Charleston (also with the Boeing Company).
I have been highly considering trying out for the reserve units on base here for an opportunity to fly the C-17 in the reserves. I know this kind of gig is highly competitive. I don’t have any physical flying experience but I plan to start my PPL soon and hopefully finish within a year.
Currently I am studying for the AFOQT, and working on PPL. Anyone have any other advice for me to maximize my chances before I turn 33? I am specifically looking to fly the C-17s and be based out of Joint Base Charleston since I live and work here. I am also okay with joining Dover, Pittsburg, or New Jersey as a back up since Charleston seems to be very competitive. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
