You don’t have to bat a 1000
Let’s be real – public speaking is difficult. We do a great job here of getting you prepped for the rush and interview but I’m much rather face Flankers than small talk.
It can be helpful to turn off that part of your brain that is evaluating your performance. Easier said than done. Perhaps a more realistic tool is to embrace that you’re not going to be perfect. Some anecdotes won’t land with some of your audience – that’s okay, accept it upfront. But better to lean in and present your personality than play it too conservative.
Yes, yes stay away from religion and politics, and don’t be the loudest person at the bar. But as you tell your story be expressive and fully present. By accepting some misses you can turn off that little voice that is taking score a bit too closely. Think of it like cluster bombs, ya some bomblets might miss but you’ll land plenty on target.
Cheers!
