Guard/Reserve pilot slots are often widely considered the “best kept secret”, and most including myself would agree! However there are some things at Guard/Reserve don’t get like living abroad in Italy or Japan, AD squadron social aspects, and certain opportunities for TDY/Deployments. Fret not however, something that isn’t often talked about are those types of opportunities for Guard/reserve. If you still want to travel, take your family abroad for a few years, or just gain valuable experience you still have those opportunities. You can apply to open positions such as staff positions across the world. There are even pilot exchanges and instructor jobs in counties like Poland for example. It might be slightly more difficult to find a specific opportunity you might want but I bet there is something out there that will scratch the itch! Good news too is some of those opportunities can vary from a few months to a few years!
