Citadel Cadet seeking advice to be hired by ANG or Reserves
Hi,
I’m Brennan, I’m a Sophomore Cadet at the Citadel, Military College of South Carolina. I was in AFROTC for the past two years, but have left the program to intern in the U.S. House of Representatives.
I’m seeking advice on where I should be as I’m hoping to get hired by a unit and seek training to become a pilot after being sponsored to go to OTS.
I currently have my student pilots license, and planning on getting my PPL this summer. While I was in AFROTC, I completed and passed the AFOQT twice, and in order to take it a third I know I’II have to get a waiver. I’ve also passed all medical tests through DoDMERBs.
I’m also asking, what should be my next steps in my plan to commission and reach my goals?

Sounds like you’re off to a pretty good start. You’ll obviously need to take the TBAS as well, but good thing getting your AFOQT out of the way and working on those flight hours. You’re very early in the process as most units wouldn’t be looking to hire you until you’re a senior. It’s always best practice to go visit with units when they’re hosting people so that you can get your foot in the door early. Nobody gets hired on their first visit, so the more times you go in person to express interest the better. Good luck and feel free to respond with any other questions!

Check out the UPT section under the job board on BogiDope. Just shoot a message to the listed POC’s and ask when they are hosting candidates!

i knew nothing about the Guard of Reserve as a Cadet.
i took a commission right out of school and later joined the Air Guard.

To finish up your packet and get ready for applications, I would recommend checking out BogiDope’s Pilot Pathway program here which is an amazing resource that I wish I had when I was in your shows. It’ll step you right through everything you need to land your dream gig. Big things if you want to pursue guard/reserve slots will be to get familiar with the process of visiting units and making contacts with their pilot recruiters. They’ll get to know you and keep you updated on opportunities to visit the squadron.
