  • Preparations for UPT phone interview

Posted by Chainsaw on August 20, 2023 at 4:14 pm

I finally received confirmation that I have been invited to the FANG 159th fighter squadron phone interview and I was wondering if anyone on these forums have made it to this point. If so are there any tips you could provide to help me better prepare myself for the phone interview.

first of all congrats on the interview! I can’t speak personally based off of your circumstances, but getting familiar with the certain types of questions they will ask you will help out a lot.

(ie. What do you know about the mission(s) and why do you want to fly the X-XX? How do you feel about killing someone? biggest accomplishment/ failure? How do you deal with stress? What do you think UPT is going to be like? Have you done any research? Why do you think you should get this slot over the other candidates? Tell us a little bit about yourself? How would my best friends describe me? What does it mean to me to be an officer? Define the term Leadership? Tell me about a time that you had a disagreement with a peer and how you dealt with it? Describe your perfect day? Why this unit…why this city? What are your long term goals? Tell us leadership roles you have had. what are your strengths? your weaknesses?)

the question list goes on and on. each unit varies, your interview may or may not ask these specific questions.

The best advice I can give you to prepare is practice these questions and have confident answers (don’t practice them so much that when it comes interview time, you sound monotonous). SELL YOURSELF, but have humility.

They may ask some additional questions regarding college, GPA, tickets (if you have any), personal experiences etc. they are trying to get an overall understanding of you and if they want to fly with you for the next 10-20 years, so be HONEST.

    Best of luck!

    I did it last year.

    Be yourself.

    Be confident.

    Have fun.

That’s the best I can give. It wasn’t a complicated interview.

In the email they stated the window for scheduling, and completion of, the phone interviews is 4 through 30 September.

Did they mass email everyone or are they gradually reaching out to people? I got the final interview last year but haven’t heard from them about phone interview yet.

P.S Interview went alright so I doubt they’re kicking me away

It looks like a mass email to everyone.

Yes. Did phone interview and in person last year.

As I mentioned, I didn’t goof or do anything to automatically eliminate me from future consideration so not sure what’s up this year

I was considering doing a 1 on 1 coaching session since I have already purchased the interview prep course. Depending on how I feel before my interview, I might schedule one. Thank you for your response and advice

By the way, How was the UPT process for you? I have a few friends who are going AD and are in the UPT process right now.
