Kratos,
I just took the TBAS test a few weeks ago and the AFOQT earlier this year. To study for the AFOQT, I used some book off of Amazon. I didn’t use anything for the TBAS.
AFOQT
The table reading is pretty straight forward. It gives you a pair of numbers and you use both of those to then find a number within the table. Did very little practice on the section and didn’t miss one.
For the block counting, it will show you a structure of blocks with one block highlighted. You will have to select how many other blocks that highlighted one touches. Keep in mind all blocks are the same size and shape. Same thing, practiced this for maybe half an hour and didn’t miss one.
For the instrument reading, it will show you an attitude indicator and a heading indicator. From those two instruments you will pick from four different aircraft orientations. I personally didn’t study this at all since I have so many previous flight hours however if you’re unfamiliar with flight instruments I’d recommend spending quite a bit of time on this part.
Side note, in my study book for the test the math sections were magnitudes easier than the actual test be prepared for harder math sections than your study materials
TBAS
For the TBAS I was told that I didn’t really need to study or practice since I have previous flight experience. This is absolutely not true. I’d would highly recommend a practice software and buying a set of rudders and joystick. I performed poorly on the test and wish I could have gone back and prepped more for it. I’m told you can get the program and stick and rudders for somewhat cheap so I’d say it’s worth the investment
If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a message. Happy to help a fellow applicant.
Best of Luck,
