    Hey all!

Former AD Rotary and Fixed Wing Aviator here. Made the jump to the Army Reserve a little over a year ago. Happy to answer or find answers to questions related to Army Reserve Aviation.

Hey Ben, I have been working with a guard unit and currently waiting on a flight board in March. The guard unit seems to be more of who you know than quality of applicant. Someone recently told me to look into the reserves but I don’t know much about it and my local active/reserve recruiter has reputation of not fulfilling what he promises. I would love to talk about the reserve option.

Definitely unit dependent on how they do accessions. I’m probably biased, but I think the reserve does a pretty good job hiring based on merit and potential. Obviously having a reputation good or bad with people in the unit can affect the decision. If the recruiter you’re working with isn’t making it happen for you, find a new one. If you have any specific questions, feel free to message me.

That is good to hear. My dream airframe is the 64 and that’s why I’m been pursuing the guard more. I wish the reserve had them. I can’t seem to get a good definitive answer on which way is better the guard or reserve. Can you give me your honest opinion on why the reserve is better? Which one has better benefits? How does unit selections work?
