Competitiveness will vary by state and most states want prior service, only a few will take civilian applicants (street to seat). You can PM me if you want and I can answer all your other questions. I’m a Warrant Officer and I had my flight ratings and a degree and I don’t regret it at all. With the National Guard you get a guaranteed pilot slot and will know your airframe regardless if you’re a warrant or LT. If you go active duty commissioned officer then you will have to compete for an aviation slot, again I recommend National Guard.

Yes, Reserve aviation pilot slots are gone since the reserves will be losing their aviation assets. However, AD is not the only option, the National Guard is still an option and the best one (in my opinion). All the Reserve guys I know are contacting different states to get in with them.

I’m currently at Ft Novosel for flight training and I’m in the guard. Feel free to message me and I’ll help you with whatever I can. Taking the SIFT and getting the flight physical done are probably the two biggest steps I would say.

Yeah I live by the beach in Florida but I’ve always felt a calling to the mountains especially Utah where my family is from and where I’m familiar with the area. Either way, you’re in a great spot for an aviation career and we’ll see where I end up.

That’s awesome congrats Will! I was born in Layton and considering switching states eventually if the time and opportunity ever arise further down the road. I know delta has a big base there so it’s a possible opportunity but not until a lot later in my career. Utah is beautiful so I imagine the flying there is very scenic.

For my state you had to be under 33 yrs old and they weren’t allowing age waivers since there is already high demand. This may vary by state though.
