4 months agoHowdy,
Boring etiquette question. When reaching out to units, is it best to do a standard quick intro email with cover letter and resume? And in general for any type of interfacing with units (zoom, rush events, interview, etc…) are suits the expected attire?
Thank you,
Rowan

A Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies report released last month examined pilot shortages in 2024. The report found that the Air Force is approximately 1,850 pilots short of their overall goal and of those, 1,142 were fighter pilots.
We, as a community of warriors need to identify and address the root cause of fighter pilot shortages…

Air Force needs more fighter pilots for more airpower, report says
The number of fighter pilots is decreasing. But a Washington think tank has an idea for how to stem the tide and bring seasoned airmen back into the fold.

I think it always goes back to, everyone wants to become a fighter pilot, and not enough want to stay. I wonder though if there were more fighter slots in the guard and reserve. If pilots would be willing to stay instead of jump to the airlines.

I have doing some research on the GI Bill the last few months as my children are now going to college. This is a great benefit that you or your dependents can use if you qualify for it. Another potential perk for joining the Guard, Reserve or Active Duty.

This topic maybe a little “advanced” for those entering into the service, however, our National Strategy is what drives our planning and programming for future conflicts to include number of pilots needed. Something to be aware of as you enter your journey.

Looks like there is potential for an accelerated push to acquire more B-21s. At this time it is completely unknown how the training process will fit in with new pilots going to the B-21. Curious if they will only take current B-2 pilots or if someone of you could see one of these birds on your drop night…

This is a great writeup and lots of photos from Bamboo Eagle 25-1. An Indo-Pacific exercise that focused on distributed operations and working to overcome the “tyranny of distance” in the Pacific. Getting to work with partners such as the RAAF is incredibly valuable. The devil always resides in the details, and these exercises give us the…
