It’s crazy thinking about how long aircraft are in service these days. The glory days of being a test pilot and flying several different aircraft are long gone, however it is kinda cool to be able to pass on aircraft to different generations. You could get selected, have a full career, retire and your kids could do the same on possibly the same seat you flew!
