National Security Strategy (NSS)
POTUS & SECWAR outlined their National Security Strategy (NSS) this week at the Reagan Library. Certainly a change from historical norms when it comes to US Foreign Policy! I outlined some highlights below for those that want a summary. Otherwise, I highly encourage you to read it for yourselves and let me know what you think!
1. US Foreign Policy pivots to Western Hemisphere as primary theatre keeping the focus on cartels, border security and regional stability. Homeland defense priority increases substantially emphasizing high-end, 5th gen training expected to rapidly respond to threats close to home.
2. China remains a strategic competitor, however emphasis on Indo-Pacific readiness is reduced in compared to previous NSS.
3. Russia framed as a state to stabilize with. Preventing confrontation, escalation, and stabilizing NATO posture is emphasized.
4. EU largely deprioritized as defense partner(s) tasking the EU to carry the majority of the defense load, financially and militarily, in Europe.
Let me know what you guys think!
