Okay, I’ll say it.
This may be one of the best Guard and Reserve hiring summers we’ve seen in a while.
Not because every unit is easy to get into. They’re not. Good squadrons are still good squadrons. But there is movement. F-35, F-16, F-15EX, C-5, HC-130, HH-60, KC-135...the whole team.
Old aircraft are leaving. New aircraft are showing up. Conversions are happening. Units are rebuilding identity after mission changes, airline pull, retention weirdness, and a few years where the pipeline felt like it was being run by a haunted fax machine.
Then stack ops tempo on top - Alert. Deployments. Upgrades. Instructor shortages. New mission sets. Old jets that still need love until the last one leaves. New jets that arrive with a giant training bill attached.
That creates churn. And churn creates openings. Not easy. Not guaranteed.
But lively. - And after a few weird years, lively is pretty nice.

Fresno is hiring.
F-15C/F-15EX. California ANG. Big motors. Alert. Tacos probably.
This one is interesting because the Eagle story keeps refusing to end. The EX is coming online, the C model is still out there doing work, and Fresno gets to sit right in the middle of that weird little transition window.
Also sneaky good location. Not beach California. Not tech-bro California. More like “drive to the mountains, drive to the coast, and still afford groceries” California.
If you’re fighter hunting, this is worth a hard look.

If selected, are you limited to getting sponsored from AFRC squadrons? Can you let your favorite ANG squadron know you've got a UPT slot, not on their "balance sheet," and thus get sponsored by them? Apologies if this idea feels like "gaming" the system.

Hey all,
My name's Chris Funke (Funky). New to BogiDope, heard about this platform through a podcast with two mil pilots and super excited to be here.
Currently taking the long way around towards aviation. Prior E for 8 years as a med tech and currently in my 12th year as a Reserve MSC officer out of Wright Patt. On my civ side I work in pharma manufacturing where I've worked from temp through manager. Prior to that I worked as a pharmacy tech.
School-wise I'm an average mind with time on their hands. I've achieved my B.S. and Master's, currently a doctoral candidate in Business Admin with my research proposal presentation on the horizon. Once I've finished there I will start my PPL. Eager to start so I've settled for Microsoft Flight Sim and the Pilot's Handbook.
Married mil to mil (Army NG) with two huskies and a cat. Love riding motorcycles, anime, manga, renaissance festivals, and dramatized historical reenactment / biographies.

As most things in life if you keep up with maintenance and proper care it will last. Aircraft and personnel are the same, just under different types of conditions. This is a very close to home article to everyone here striving to fly for ANG and AFR, worth a read!
