Husky started the discussion Spicy Take: OA-1A in the forum Air Force 9 months ago
Right now within the beltway, the Pacific is THE THING. Small wars are old news “We’ll never do that again.”
My (personal) opinion, OA-1A crews are going to see a ton of action fighting the small wars of the next two decades while 5th gen will deter the big war without firing a shot.
If I wanted adventure: I’d take a skywarden.
But change my mind!…

T-38 max effort takeoff.
Did you know a T-38 can outrun an F-16 (with tanks)?
The 38 can mil power cruise at 620 KCAS at 300’. The F-16 is limited to 600 with tanks. In max AB the talon can do 680 easy. Skulls up, that trick gets sporty if only one lights, but that’s a story for another time.

The scramble takeoffs are awesome it feels like stealing.
Lightweight, Max AB. You have to raise the gear right at 190 knots or you’ll blow through 300 in the 15” it takes to retract.

What does it hold? I don’t know, and neither does this USAF. But here’s what it thinks (attached).
Highlights:
-Overhauling a fleet while complying with the 23 FRA and rising personnel costs is tough.
-4 fighters go forward…and CCA….and multiple versions on the F-15….and only after NGAD and CCA come along.
-old fighters are expensive ‘cause…

Woof. Yep, certainly not good news but let me offer some context.
1) It’s not just an ANG problem, expect that USAFA and ROTC will take cuts. Usually in the scenarios, it’s least bad for ANG.
2) It’s not just a Boeing problem. There was an engine contract that didn’t go well but is apparently improving. See below.
3) It is only a fighter…
