Reserve Interview
Hey all,
Looking at trying to pickup a Reserve IMA job. I’ve got a friend at a unit who has offered to show me around. How does hiring work, should I show ready to interview or is it usually visits that lead to an interview? Thanks!
Spike_834 That's awesome you've got an inside connection to a unit where you can visit. Unit visits are a great way to learn more about the military way of life, what to expect, and to gain valuable information from those who are where you want to be.
I'd ask your friend when their next hiring board will be conducted. UPT boards are typically planned well in advance and involve a formal process of applying/vetting/interviews/selection. However, anytime you are visiting a unit, it is an informal interview so look and play the part.

Ah, yea that's a little different. I would be very surprised if they said, "Hey, nice to meet you, please come into my office and interview for this job!" But if your friend preps the battlespace, they will likely (should) know that you're interested in joining the unit which makes the visit somewhere between "visiting" and "interviewing." So I would definitely come ready to impress and meet the important people!
Since it's a non-flying position, there's a chance it's currently vacant and they are just waiting for the right person to come along. In that case, if your visit goes well, it could very well result in an interview. In my experience, ANG/AFRC command units can hire directly to fill vacant positions. Because you're Active Duty, it takes more coordination for the timing/transition.
